The viral video campaign which right2bet have launched has been banned from being advertised on websites throughout Europe, again highlighting the farcical situation which has seen several European countries ignore EU Law.
The Renegade Ref video campaign shows an extremely camp referee let loose on the streets, conducting his own unique style of refereeing on unwitting members of the public. Yet the videos have been banned as the right2bet campaign is attempting to end the gambling monopolies in countries such as France, Germany and Sweden.
The decision by these EU member states to ban betting companies from operating within their borders, with the exception of one or two state-owned companies, is in direct contravention of EU law and means millions of people throughout Europe are being prevented from betting however and with whomever they want.
Right2bet spokesman Michael Robb said: "The ridiculousness of European betting laws has never been better demonstrated. The 'Renegade Ref' videos are encouraging people to join our consumer campaign and make a stand for freedom of choice. But because the campaign is linked to betting as opposed to any other leisure industry, we're told that many websites are worried they may not be allowed to show our videos.
"It's farcical - they're free to put them up if we don't pay them, but not if they're commercially advertised. It proves our point that these outdated laws are impinging on people's freedom, not just to bet, but also to express opinion. This is fundamentally against what the EU should stand for."
Right2bet are hoping to secure one million signatures backing their campaign, which they will then take to Brussels and force the EU to act upon the situation. To sign the campaign please visit www.right2bet.com or www.thenakedpetition.com
